Highland Park is Hot!

Whether you are a first time buyer or a seasoned investor, Highland Park is attracting all kinds!

I was in the Highland Park area, back in April, and my client was looking for a 3+2 for her and her son. She was from New York, and I told her of a neighborhood I had been digging, and I told her it had a feel to it that I thought she might like to check out, and I wanted her to see Highland Park.

We had seen several homes and we decided to stop on York blvd to grab a coffee and just take in the scene along York blvd. Across from where I sit I see a doggie spa. What? A doggie spa? I understand that back as early as the 40's, hard to imagine, but yes the 40's..and more recently the 70's to the early 2000's, this area was controlled by the several street gangs, including The Avenues gang, so seeing a doggie spa and sipping a cappuccino while munching on a chocolate croissant was probably not what anyone would have expected 10 years ago.

Over the last 10-12 years with LA's crackdown on gangs and the comeback of the housing market, investors have been picking up houses and lots for cheep, and restoring them with uber chic modern features. Many of the homes in this area are Craftsman or Spanish style homes which have always been popular with Angelenos. A 2 bedroom 1 bath house for sale in Highland Park in 2004 was around 115k, today would you believe high 600,000's? Yea It's pretty incredible.

Many people describe York blvd as having an "Abbot Kinney" (Venice Beach) feel. Personally, it reminds me of when I lived In Los Feliz or even Silver Lake, with many hip bars and restaurants now opening up. And year over year many millennials and artsy hipster types are moving in. Today I see many new families pushing strollers and dogs, which illuminates the changes that have been happening here.
